DESCRIPTION
Support for fixing a device to the body of a user OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a support for attaching to the body of a user a device for measuring the position and / or movement of the body.
These known measuring devices or instruments comprise one or more sensors, for example, accelerometers, gyroscopes, or GPS receivers, to obtain position or movement data of the device, such as speed or acceleration. When the device is fixed to the body, or when it moves with it, for example, when transported by the user, the device therefore allows monitoring and evaluation of the movement of the user's body.
The invention is applicable to the field of physical activity and sport, as well as to the field of sports medicine and biomedicine, in particular, for the improvement of sports performance and for training and physical preparation, as well as for the diagnosis and the treatment of pathologies for injuries. In particular, the invention is applicable in sports such as football or rugby and for high performance athletes, where critical body movements such as jumps, falls, passes or throws occur.
The invention may also be useful in biometric recognition applications of people, or other applications based on movements of the human body.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Currently, the attachment to the body of the user or placement of known measuring devices is carried out by means of bracelets and bandages or through pockets adapted for this purpose in garments, such as sports bibs, backpacks or slippers.

All known solutions for attaching devices to the human body have the disadvantage that they do not allow obtaining position or velocity measurements of the body sufficiently precise or as precise as those that known measurement devices, regardless of fixation, can currently give. This is because the device does not remain completely fixed during the measurement, so that small unwanted displacements or vibrations of the device, which occur as a result of body movement, generate erroneous data and noise in the measurements obtained.
These known solutions also have the disadvantage that said unwanted displacements of the device can make it difficult or uncomfortable for the user to carry out the movement of the body itself, which may also affect the reliability of the measurement. In this sense, in addition, in the solutions that use fixations such as bracelets or bandages, the difficulty or discomfort for the realization of the movement by the user may be greater, because the device is held by hugging and compressing the area of the body to which are fixed, and may cause the user an annoying pressure in said area.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention provides a support for attaching to the body of a user a device for measuring the position and / or movement of the body, which allows the measurement to be carried out reliably, solving the drawbacks indicated above.
According to the invention, the support comprises a substantially non-deformable support surface shaped to fix the support to the front part of a leg, which extends from the knee to the ankle, of the user, supporting the support surface in the area tibia anterior.
The tibia is the major bone of the anterior part of the leg. This bone has a surface called the anterior tibia area that is characterized by being devoid of muscle mass around it, being located in the inner lateral front part of the anterior part of the leg. The anterior area of the tibia has a surface
5

approximately flat and inclined, with respect to a frontal vertical plane according to the length of the tibia, about 45 ° horizontally towards the inside of the arch formed by the legs.
These characteristics of the anterior part of the leg are a consequence of human evolutionary development that, by adopting the ability to biped, forced the calf muscle mass and outside the anterior tibia area to develop to a greater extent, to the detriment of the muscle mass of the area of the anterior tibia area.
According to the invention, since the support surface of the support is substantially non-deformable and is formed in correspondence with the anterior area of the tibia, so that it supports at least part of it, it is achieved that the support provides a stable fixation to the device. Thus, the support rests on an area substantially without muscle mass, so that the deformation of the muscle mass of the body due to its movement does not affect the support, avoiding unwanted displacements of the device. Consequently, it is possible to obtain a more reliable measurement by the device, providing a measurement system with precision, reproducibility and repeatability. Also, to the extent that the fixation of the device does not affect or compress the muscle mass, a greater comfort of use of the support and reliability of the measurement is achieved.
Likewise, by being able to measure the position and / or movement, not only of the whole body as a whole, but also of different segments or moving parts of the body and limbs, such as the front part of the leg, it is possible to provide a more complete measurement, which allows a more detailed description of body movement. Of course, the determination of the movement of the anterior part of the leg, is especially useful in some sports such as football or rugby, to be exercised to a greater extent.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Next, a preferred embodiment of the invention is described with reference to the accompanying drawings, where for illustrative and non-limiting purposes, it is shown:

Fig. 3 represents a cross-sectional view of the support in a middle area of the anterior part of the left leg, with the device fixed thereto and once the support assembly and the device are placed.
DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
As shown in the figures, the support 10 of the embodiment can be placed on the user's left leg. However, the support 10 according to the invention may be adapted for placement in the left leg, or in the right leg, or even in one of the two legs interchangeably. The support 10 can be placed directly on the leg or, alternatively, by intermediation of a garment (not shown) such as a sock or pants.
The support 10 has, in general, a shin guard shape, but adapted according to the invention, in particular, so that in the position of fixing the support 10, to the front part of the leg 1, the support surface 20 supports in the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2, said support surface 20 being substantially non-deformable. That is, the support surface 20 of the support 10 is shaped, in particular with the appropriate curvature, to adapt to the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2 when the support 10 is placed in the front part of the user's leg 1 for fixing . Thus, a hard area of the anterior part of the leg 1, corresponding to the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2, serves as a stable support of the support 10 on the support surface 20, since it is substantially non-deformable to remain in contact with said support surface 20 during body movement.
In FIGS. 1 and 2, the support surface 20 of the support 10 and the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2 are schematically represented, by striped areas in the support 10 and in the tibia 2, respectively. The bones of the tibia 2 and the fibula 4 of the anterior part of the leg 1 are also represented schematically.

30
Since, as described above, the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2 has an approximately flat surface inclined about 45 ° inwards, the conformation of the support surface 20 for a standard support 10 can be carried out following said pattern . On the other hand, so that the support 10 can be valid for both the left leg and the right leg, it is contemplated that the support 10 can be symmetrically shaped, that is, so that the support 10 can be placed on either of the two legs, simply by turning the same 180 ° in a vertical plane, from the position of the support 10 in one of the legs.
The support 10 is used to fix the measuring device 30. The device 30 marketed under the WIMU® brand by the Real Track System is an example of a device suitable for use together with the support 10 of the present invention. These devices 30 record information about the position and movement of the body in all dimensions once attached to it. The information is stored in a memory of the device 30, for example, by means of a removable memory card, so that it can be downloaded and subsequently processed by a computer and a suitable computer program, allowing the evaluation of body movement.
The support 10 comprises a base 21 in the form of a plate. As can be seen in Figure 3, the base 21 comprises a substantially rigid housing 22, which configures the substantially non-deformable support surface 20 to be supported in the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2. Advantageously, due to the relative low cost of a plate, as well as its ease of being shaped in a known manner, the support surface 20 according to the invention can be manufactured easily and with a relatively reduced cost. Preferably, the housing 22 is obtained by thermoforming from a plate of thermoplastic material, material that is suitable for its reduced weight and sufficient strength; polypropylene can be used, for example. Other suitable materials can also be used, which provide sufficient strength and are light, which can be selected based on the characteristics of the device or devices 30 intended to be fixed on the support 10, such as carbon fiber composites. In this sense, it is desirable that the weight of the support 10 be reduced, since this results in greater comfort of use and greater fixing capacity and stability of the support 10, contributing to avoid unwanted vibrations or movements.

As can also be seen in Figure 3, the base 21 additionally comprises an inner liner 23, which covers the housing 22 on its inner face, to avoid possible abrasions on the user's skin by friction of the housing 22, when the support 10 is placed directly on the leg. The lining 23 can be of a flexible material that allows easy covering of the housing 22, adapting to the shape of its surface. Preferably, the liner 23 is formed by a sheet of thermoplastic material, which can easily be extended on the inner face of the housing 22 by application of heat; for example, ethyl vinyl acetate or EVA rubber can be used.
In relation to the materials used for the manufacture of the support 10, preferably these can be selected from those accepted by current sports regulations as suitable and non-invasive for the practice of the corresponding sports, such as polypropylene and ethyl vinyl acetate materials, indicated above, particularly for football and rugby.
In relation to the manufacturing process of the support 10, firstly, the housing 22 can be obtained, for example, by thermoforming a thermoplastic plate on a mold, or by rolling carbon fiber composite material on the mold and later cured. Once the housing 22 is stiffened, it can be trimmed and finished with a grinding process to remove the excess flanges, compacted in thickness and polishing the surface. Subsequently, the inner liner 23 can be applied on the housing 22 of the base 21, which, in case the liner 23 is made of thermoplastic material, can be attached to the housing 22 directly by heat application. Other known techniques can also be used to attach the inner liner 23 to the housing 22, such as by adhesive.
As can be seen in Figure 1, for fixing the device 30 to the support 10, a fastener 40 attached to the base 21 is used which, as a clamp, comprises two lugs 41.42: the upper lug 41 and the lower lug 42. The device 30 is fixed by inserting it between the lugs 41.42, pressing lightly on the lugs, so that, when the fixation 40 of certain elasticity is provided, the lugs 41.42 are separated from each other when the device 30 is inserted and they are closed again when the device 30 is inserted, the device 30 being fixed. Conversely, to remove the device 30, it can be removed by exerting slight pressure on the lugs 41,42 to
5

separate them, pressing on them with the device 30 itself, thus releasing the fixation 40.
Also, other types of fixation of the known device 30 to the support 10 can be used, such as for example extensible fixings, which can be configured to adapt to devices 30 of different size and shape, in particular using elastic adjustment means, for example, springs.
The fixation 40 of the device 30 to the support 10 can be attached to the support 10 by adhesive, for example. It is also contemplated that the fixing 40 can be manufactured integrated, at least in part, with the support 10, in particular with the base 21 or the housing 22, in order to improve the strength of the support 10, as a consequence of improving the stiffening of the connection between fixing 40 and support 10.
The fixation 40 of the device 30 to the support 10 can be complemented with a cover 50, which in addition to improving the stability of the fixation 40, by limiting possible lateral displacements of the device 30 once fixed with the lugs 41,42, protects the device 30 from the action of external agents such as rain or mud. The cover 50 can be fixed to the support 10 fitted around the lugs 41.42 and / or with the help of clips 53 or elastic tabs arranged on an outer contact surface of the lugs 41.42 with the cover, as seen in the Figure 1.
The cover 50 may include a front window 51.52 for access to the power or operation button 32 of the device 30, or other functionalities that the device 30 may incorporate, such as a light indicator 31. The cover 50 may be transparent , in which case window 51 for the indicator light 31 can be dispensed with.
For the adjustment of the fixing of the support 10 to the front part of the leg 1, elastic bands or any other adjustment means known as for example buckles or tensioners can be used, for example. In the embodiment shown, two tapes 60.61, an upper tape 60 and a lower tape 61 are used to achieve a better distribution of the contact pressure of the support surface 20 of the support 10 with the leg. The two tapes 60.61 are arranged by sliding them to the support 10, passing through the
5

holes 62. To adjust the tapes 60.61 to fit the leg in the positioning position, sailboat 63 can be used.
The support 10 has the advantage of its ease of use. To use the support 10, once the device 30 is fixed to the support 10, the assembly of the support 10 and the device 30 are placed on the leg, resting the contact surface on the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2. Once arranged in In the correct position, the assembly is adjusted to the appropriate extent by pulling the tapes 60.61 and fixing them by means of the sailboat 63. After switching on and starting up the device 30 through the window 52 of the cover 50, the desired body movements for measurement as many times as necessary.
For optimal operation of the support 10, it is desirable that the fixation 40 of the device 30 to the support 10 be substantially centered with respect to the support surface 20, as shown in the figures. For this, the support 10 can be configured so that a fixing area of the support 10, on which the device 30 is fixed to the support 10, overlaps, at least in part, the support surface 20. In this way the mechanical loads acting on the device 30 during body movement can be transmitted more efficiently to the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2, through the support surface 20 of the support 10.
Advantageously, the support surface 20 of the support 10 is substantially elongated, to fix the support 10 supporting the support surface 20 extending according to the length of the tibia 2, as shown in Figures 1 and 2. For this, a length of the fixing area of the support 10, as defined above, can be selected less than a length of the support surface 20, said lengths being measured according to a longitudinal direction to the tibia 2 in a position of the support 10 fixed to the anterior part of the leg 1. Preferably, the length of the fixing area is less than 75% of the length of the support surface 20, and more preferably, less than 50%. As a consequence of the fact that the mechanical loads acting on the device 30 during the movement of the body are distributed along a greater length of the support surface, with this configuration a more stable support of the support 10 in the anterior area is also achieved 3 of the tibia 2, which may be suitable especially for more bulky or larger devices.
5
10
fifteen
twenty
25
30
Also advantageously, the support 10 is configured to be fixed to a middle area 6 of the front part of the leg 1, as shown in the figures. In particular, the support surface 20 is shaped to fix the support 10 by supporting the support surface 20 in a middle area 6 of the front part of the leg 1. Here, middle area 6 denotes an area of the front part of the leg 1 located approximately midway between the knee and the ankle of the foot 5, in which the width of the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2, on which the support 10 in accordance with the invention rests, is larger, improving, by therefore, again the stability of the support of the support 10.
The support 10 according to the invention also has the advantage that it allows a custom manufacturing, according to the characteristic dimensions of each user. For this, the support surface 20 is obtainable from a mold with the shape of the front part of the leg 1 of a certain user intended to support the support surface 20 of the support 10 therein, so that the bearing surface 20 reproduce or be adapted to the shape of the anterior area 3 of the tibia 2 of the determined user. What has been said above with respect to the manufacturing process of a support 10 in a standard way, can also be applied to the manufacture of a custom support 10, taking into account that the mold can be tailored to the user, for example, from a mold of plaster obtained directly from the leg or, for example, through an intermediate mold of phenolic foam obtained directly from the leg, which can be subsequently filled, for example with plaster, to obtain the mold. Thus, it becomes possible, therefore, to obtain a support 10 with a relatively reduced cost, the support 10 being even adapted to the particular anatomy of each athlete or user.
Of course, other variants and embodiments resulting from applying the inventive concept according to the invention are also possible, for example, the support 10, or part thereof, in particular the fixing 40 of the device 30 to the support 10, can be integrated in the same device 30. In particular, the various variants described herein can be combined with each other, resulting in other embodiments such as those obtained with the multiple combinations of the appended claims.
